Faroese Nominee: Abbi og eg og abbi
Congratulations to author Dánial Hoydal and illustrator Annika Øyrabø for the nomination of the book "Abbi og eg og abbi" for the West Nordic Council's Literature Prize 2022. The illustrated children's book was published in Spring 2021 by BFL and was awarded the M.A. Jacobsen Award for Children's Literature in September 2021.
In their motivation the committee says: "In this book about the little boy and his grandfather who suffers from dementia, Dánial Hoydal skilfully describes this rather sensitive yet relevant topic in a careful, respectful and child-friendly way. Dánial is capable of writing about serious and difficult topics with humour and playful language and gives the reader a sense of hope. Annika Øyrabø has a special skill of recreating the story with her 3-D paper clippings with shadows and dept, which make room for the readers to dive into in the story and take part in it as it evolves before their eyes".
The West Nordic Council nominates one book from each member country: Faroe Islands, Greenland and Iceland. The price money is DKK 60,000, and the winner will be announced later this year.
