New anthology in English
Dedalus has published The Dedalus Book of Faroese Literature; a selection of 29 short texts in prose by Faroese authors from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st. The oldest texts in the book are legends written down from oral narrative, whilst “the other texts are works of fiction and short stories by authors who developed Faroese literature and created a modern Faroese fiction,” Malan Marnersdóttir, editor of the anthology, states in the introduction to the book.
Authors, whose texts are featured in the collection spanning almost 400 pages, are (in order of appearance): V. U. Hammershaimb, Jakob Jakobsen, Johanna Maria Skylv Hansen, Regin í Líð (Rasmus Rasmussen), Sverri Patursson, Andrea Reinert, Petra Djurhuus (Elsa við Á), Maria Mikkelsen, Heðin Brú, Martin Joensen, Jørgen-Frantz Jacobsen, William Heinesen, Jens Pauli Heinesen, Oddvør Johansen, Hanus Kamban, Gunnar Hoydal, Magnus Dam Jacobsen, Arnbjørn Danielsen, Oddfríður Marni Rasmussen, Carl Jóhan Jensen, Tóroddur Poulsen, Sólrún Michelsen, Marjun Syderbø Kjelnæs, Katrin Ottarsdóttir, Firouz Gaïni, Lív Maria Róadóttir Jæger, Annika Skaalum, Malan Poulsen and Trygvi Danielsen.
The texts have been translated from Faroese and Danish to English by Lindy Falk van Rooyen, Marita Thomsen and Paul Russell Garrett.
