Poetry translation: Haukur Ingvarsson and Anna Fohlin Mattsson in conversation with Beinir Bergsson and Dania O. Tausen

FarLit will be hosting a discussion on the translation of poetry in co-operation with the popular podcast Samværi, broadcast on Faroese Radio and available on streaming platforms. Joining the hosts, Beinir Bergsson and Dania O. Tausen, are Icelandic writer, editor and literary scholar, Haukur Ingvarsson, and Swedish writer and translator, Anna Fohlin Mattsson. The discussion will take place on Saturday 1 March at 13:00 in H. N. Jacobsen’s Book Shop in Tórshavn as part of the inaugural Faroe Islands Literature Festival from 26 February to 1 March.

What challenges and discoveries does a translator encounter, when translating a poem? What does the poet experience, when their poetry is translated? Can the essence of a poem survive translation? How does poetry translation differ from e.g. prosaic translation? These are just some of the questions the two guests along with the hosts are expected to reflect on during the 90 minute long event. Towards the end of the event, the audience will get the opportunity to ask questions or share their thoughts on the subject.

Entrance to the event is free of charge. Please note that there is limited seating for the event. The live-recording of the discussion will be available on podcast streaming platforms after the festival has concluded.
