New non-fiction work on Faroese foreign policy

New non-fiction work on Faroese foreign policy

Fróðskapur (Faroe University Press) has published a non-fiction anthology containing articles by 17 different authors covering Faroese foreign policy. The book, titled Heimsins nalvi – Føroyskur uttanríkispolitikkur í fjórðingsøld (en. Navel of the World: Faroese foreign policy in a quarter-century), takes a look at Faroese foreign affairs from a broad perspective.

17 authors from different backgrounds examine Faroese foreign affairs from different perspectives. The book contains multiple subjects, such as the commercial and national development of the 19th century, the world wars, negotiations on fishing zones during the Cold War, the first embassies of the Faroe Islands, transfer of jurisdiction from Denmark, and how the foreign affairs of the Faroe Islands continue to develop in the 21st century.

The authors consist of researchers, government officials and journalists, who have all written their work with readers from the general public in mind. The anthology is edited by journalist Regin Winther Poulsen, associate professor Jens Christian Svabo Justinussen, PhD student Rógvi Olavson and associate professor Heini í Skorini.

Heimsins nalvi is the first book to focus exclusively on Faroese foreign affairs and comes at a time of great changes in the global society. The target reader of the book is anyone interested in the Faroe Islands’ place in the modern world today and in the near future.
